No More Blank Pages ~ Visual Journaling with Liz Kettle

Art Journaling 101
There is something so appealing about a new sketchbook or journal. It is full of possibility and visions of colorful sketches, whimsical drawings and beautiful, mysterious collages.
And…there they sit….just waiting for you to crack open the cover and begin. It sounds so simple and then the ‘buts’ show up…
I don’t know how to begin?
I will ruin it for sure!
I can’t draw!
In this three week class we will crack open those journals and find joy and passion in those blank pages. We will play with a wide variety of mixed media materials to experiment, explore and uncover the wide range of possibilities of expression in a visual journal. We will get messy and spread color everywhere! Glitter will surely be involved.
We will do some ‘serious’ art work too…learning basic design and composition and the secret magic of layering. This class is great for beginner visual journal keepers and for the intermediate journaler looking to explore techniques, design and composition in their journals. Teen friendly.
Join me for 3 session of messy journal fun! It might just change your life.
No More Blank Pages Supply List
with Liz Kettle
Supply fee: $12
Students bring:
1. Two journals/sketchbooks to work in. Choose a journal with heavy paper and a spiral binding. Look for one that is for mixed media. Sketchbook and drawing paper is too thin for wet media, collage or stitch. Size is a personal decision. Some people prefer small and some large. You may want to get one of each. We will need two so that we can keep playing while paint or glue is drying in one. They do not have to be new pristine journals! If you have some collecting dust bring them!!
Good choices are:
i. Strathmore Visual Journals: either the Mixed Media or Watercolor paper
ii. Canson Artist Series Mix Media Hardbound Art Books
iii. Cachet Mixed Media Artist Travel Book
2. Basic Journal Kit: Favorite pens, markers, scissors, task lighting if desired, apron and whatever you need to be comfortable.
3. A few acrylic paints in your favorite color.
4. A heat tool/embossing gun (we can share so don’t worry if you don’t have one)
5. A sense of adventure and play
Teacher to Supply (kit fee)
A yummy assortment of color making tools (paints, oil pastels, inktense pencils, watercolors, gelatos, etc) and some gels and molding paste to play with.
Design tools: stencils, wood printing blocks, thermofax screens, and image transfers
Fabric and papers.

We encourage you to respect our teachers and register early.
1. So you can be sure to get into a class before it fills up.
2. So the instructors know the class is going to be able to go. This helps them plan for supplies and kits that might be needed.
3. Instructors have a minimum and a maximum number of students they will take. We will decide if we need to cancel the class 4-5 days before the first class if there is not enough interest.
We want to continue to bring in quality instructors, and early registration helps us do that. Thanks.
